The British Ambassador to Israel, His Excellency David Quarrey, visited Mayanei Hayeshua Medical centre Accompanied by Mr Isaac Shapira OBE a friend of Mr Quarrey, the Ambassador was shown around the hospital by British-born Director of Resource Development Chaim Fachler and Co- Chairman of the British Friends Board, Dr Rosalind Landau.
Meeting many members of staff and patients, British Ambassador Quarrey gained an insight into the cutting edge medical care being offered at the facility. He was given a tour into the newly expanded Operating Theatre Wing, particularly appropriate as the dinner held last year by the British Friends of MHMC focused on raising funds for this project.
The tour included the Paediatrics department the Ambassador was particularly impressed by the Neo Natal ICU which has an unprecedented record of 18 months completely infection free. Mr Quarrey was also shown plans for a new Cardiology Building which includes a carpark which can be converted into a rocket – protected underground Emergency Hospital.
Following his visit, British Ambassador Quarrey commented “This is a genuine Hospital for the Community, not just a Community Hospital”.
At the suggestion of CEO Shlomo Rothschild that Mayanei Hayeshua’s senior staff pool their resources wuth fellow medical professionals in some major UK hospitals, the ambassador replied that he would happily explore ways to promote this bilateral collaboration which, in his opinion, would greatly benefit both sides, especially in light of the very progressive approach to patient managment which he saw during his visit.
Dr Landau said after the visit that it had been a pleasure to welcome His Exellency Mr. Quarrey and to cement the link between the hospital and the British Friends of Mayanei Hayeshua.
In the last week of November 2019, Professor Rael Strous, the South African-born medical director of Mayanei Hayeshua’s Mental Health Centre, and professor of psychiatry at Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Medicine, was in London for a busy round of meetings and events organised by the British Friends of Mayanei Hayeshua.
