A public lecture took place in the auditorium of the King David High School, Johannesburg, under the auspices of “Hatzola Medical Rescue”. More than 100 educators, parents and medical professionals came to hear Mayanei Hayeshua’s head of Psychiatry, Professor Strous, speak on “Let’s talk about suicide: Insights and advice on pre-teen and adolescent suicide.”
Topics covered the South African born visiting Professor included the signs to be concerned about, the strategies a school should have in place, preventative education for parents and students, and how to respond to websites and media that glorify and encourage suicide.
In the last week of November 2019, Professor Rael Strous, the South African-born medical director of Mayanei Hayeshua’s Mental Health Centre, and professor of psychiatry at Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Medicine, was in London for a busy round of meetings and events organised by the British Friends of Mayanei Hayeshua.
